Super GT 2026 GT500 Title Fight: #36 TOM'S vs #17 Astemo

Super GT GT500 2026: #36 vs #17, three races, one title

The Super GT season doesn't fade out this year, it piles up. Round 7 at Autopolis is a three-hour race on 18 October. Then Motegi hosts two championship rounds in one weekend, Round 3 on Saturday 7 November and the Grand Final on Sunday 8 November. Five races are done, the gaps are real, and there's still enough on the table to flip both classes. Here's where it stands, straight from the series' own numbers.

What's left on the calendar

Round Circuit Format Race day
Round 7 Autopolis GT 3 Hours Race Sun 18 Oct, 13:10–16:10 JST (12:10 SGT)
Round 3 Mobility Resort Motegi GT 250km Race Sat 7 Nov, 14:00 JST (13:00 SGT)
Round 8 Mobility Resort Motegi GT 250km Race, Grand Final Sun 8 Nov, 14:00 JST (13:00 SGT)

Why Motegi gets two rounds

Round 3 was meant to be in Malaysia, and Super GT announced back in April that it was postponed. The series' current calendar now runs Round 3 at Mobility Resort Motegi. Motegi's own timetable has a practice session on Friday 6 November. Round 3 qualifying is Saturday 7 November at 09:00, and the race starts at 14:00 (13:00 in Singapore). On Sunday 8 November it repeats: qualifying from 09:45, then the Grand Final at 14:00, followed by the podium and season finale. The circuit marks those times as subject to change. Two races at the same track inside 48 hours: a clean Saturday sets you up, a messy one could end your year.

Autopolis: the last stop before Motegi

It's a three-hour race, long enough for strategy, traffic and a safety car to matter more than one fast lap. The race runs 13:10–16:10 local time on Sunday 18 October, which is 12:10 to 15:10 in Singapore. Saturday has official practice from 10:30, then qualifying: Q1 at 14:30 and Q2 at 15:23. The lap is 4.674 km, clockwise, with 18 corners.

  • F-2 flypast — Super GT confirmed a welcome flight by a JASDF Tsuiki Air Base F-2, Sunday 11:20–11:30.
  • Saturday extras — pit walk, a kids' walk and a driver talk show.

GT500 standings after Round 6

The #36 au TOM'S GR Supra (au is the car's title sponsor) of Sho Tsuboi and Kenta Yamashita leads the class. But Koudai Tsukakoshi and Yuto Nomura took the #17 Astemo Prelude to victory at SUGO, and the gap is now 13.

2 #17 Koudai Tsukakoshi / Yuto Nomura Astemo REAL RACING · HRC PRELUDE-GT 45

5 #39 Yuhi Sekiguchi / Sacha Fenestraz TGR TEAM SARD · GR Supra 32
6 #14 Nirei Fukuzumi / Kazuya Oshima TGR TEAM ENEOS ROOKIE · GR Supra 31

The top six splits evenly: three GR Supras, three HRC PRELUDE-GTs. Nissan's best in the team table is the #23 MOTUL Niterra Z in ninth, with the #12 TEAM IMPUL Z in tenth.

Head to head: #36 vs #17

Two very different seasons. #36 won the first two rounds and has scored steadily since. #17 started slowly, then took 36 of its 45 points in the last two races.

Round #36 TOM'S GR Supra #17 Astemo Prelude
Rd 1 Okayama Win · 20 10th · 1

GT500 points run 20-15-11-8-6-5-4-3-2-1, plus 1 for pole, and every round counts. With three races left, up to 63 points are still on the table, so on paper it isn't just a two-car fight. But on form, it's these two.

GT300 standings after Round 6

In GT300 the #56 KONDO RACING GT-R NISMO GT3 has the cushion. João Paulo de Oliveira and Iori Kimura finished second at SUGO behind the #60 LMcorsa LC500, and they lead by 21.

Pos Car Drivers Team / car Pts
1 #56 João Paulo de Oliveira / Iori Kimura KONDO RACING · NISSAN GT-R NISMO GT3 69
2 #777 Tomonobu Fujii / Charlie Fagg D'station Racing · Aston Martin Vantage GT3 EVO 48
3 #7 Zak O'Sullivan CARGUY MKS RACING · Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO 47

The SUGO podium was a proper mixed bag: a Lexus LC500 on top, the GT-R second, and the #61 SUBARU BRZ R&D SPORT third.

What decides it

  • Can #17 keep closing? — A win at SUGO brought them to 13 behind. Autopolis is the last chance to hit Motegi within striking distance.
  • The Motegi double — Two races in two days at one track. A team that nails its setup on Saturday probably carries it into Sunday. One that doesn't has no time to recover.
  • Success weight — Super GT's handicap is set by how many races each car has started, not by the round number. Autopolis is every car's 6th start, so it's 2 kg per point. That puts #36 at the 100 kg cap (only 50 kg goes in as ballast; the rest is applied through restrictors), with #17 on 90. At Motegi it drops to 1 kg per point on Saturday, and the final on Sunday runs with no success weight at all.

A few of the names fighting for these titles are brands we stock. No, the wheels below aren't off the race cars. They're the road wheels from the same houses.

  • TOM'S — the team behind the GT500 points leader. TWF and TWC road wheels, 15" to 22".
  • NISMO — the GT-R NISMO GT3 leads GT300. LM GT4 and LM GT4 EVO, now in anodised Bronze.
  • IMPUL — TEAM IMPUL runs the #12 Z in GT500. GT-06 and NR-01 road wheels.
  • STI — the BRZ R&D SPORT took a GT300 podium at SUGO. STI says its BRZ wheel ST28100ZM010 carries over the design of its Super GT race wheel.
