TEIN FS2 2-Way Adjustable Coilover Suspension Kit

The TEIN FS2 Coilover Suspension Kit combines a separate-reservoir damper design with independent control over two areas of damping adjustment. Developed for drivers who want greater flexibility when setting up their suspension, the FS2 provides a wide adjustment range for different roads, driving conditions and vehicle setups.

Its 2-way damping system combines a 16-level simultaneous rebound and compression adjustment with a separate 16-level compression-only adjustment. This allows the suspension response to be fine-tuned more precisely than with a conventional single-adjustment damper.

Separate-Reservoir Damper Design

The FS2 uses a separate reservoir to provide sufficient oil capacity, damper stroke and heat dissipation. According to TEIN, this construction helps the dampers maintain linear damping performance during use.

The two adjustment mechanisms give the driver greater control over the way the suspension reacts, making it possible to tailor the damping characteristics to the vehicle and intended driving conditions.

Hydraulic Bump Stop – H.B.S.

TEIN equips the FS2 with its Hydraulic Bump Stop, or H.B.S. When the damper moves beyond a predetermined point in its stroke, the system restricts the internal oil passage and generates increased damping force near full compression.

Rather than relying solely on the physical compression of a conventional bump rubber, H.B.S. converts impact energy into heat within the shock absorber. This helps reduce the impact and rebound that can disturb the vehicle when the suspension approaches full compression. A relief valve is also fitted to prevent an excessive increase in damping force when internal cylinder pressure rises beyond a specified level.

The H.B.S. activation point and damping characteristics can be configured for each vehicle application. A bump rubber must still be installed, even when the suspension is equipped with H.B.S.

Camber Adjustment

For applicable strut-type installations, the FS2 lower bracket incorporates a camber adjustment mechanism. Rotating the eccentric camber collar by 180 degrees changes the camber angle, allowing adjustment on vehicles where camber cannot be altered through the upper mount.

Selected applications with an insert-type strut arrangement use an eccentric sleeve that can be rotated to adjust the camber toward either the negative or positive side of the standard setting. These features are application-dependent and are not included with every FS2 kit.

Vehicle-Specific Mounts

The FS2 is supplied with mounts selected for the individual vehicle application. Depending on the vehicle, TEIN uses either a reinforced-rubber upper mount or a pillow-ball upper mount. Front strut-type pillow-ball mounts include camber adjustment where applicable.

Some vehicles originally manufactured without a separate mount plate require the corresponding factory component to be reused.

Thread-Type Ride Height Adjustment

Ride height is adjusted by moving the lower spring seat up or down on the threaded damper body. TEIN uses this straightforward arrangement to provide a simple and accessible method of setting the vehicle height.

Twin-Tube Construction

The FS2 uses a twin-tube damper construction. This design makes it easier to secure sufficient suspension stroke while reducing reaction force, supporting comfortable and controlled operation across varying road surfaces.

The available stroke allows the damper to follow uneven surfaces smoothly, providing compliant movement at lower speeds and stable behaviour at higher speeds.

Overhaul and Specification Changes

The TEIN FS2 can be overhauled to restore its original performance. Its damping-force specification can also be changed during an overhaul, allowing the suspension settings to be further tailored to the driver's requirements.

Optional EDFC Compatibility

The FS2 is compatible with the TEIN EDFC electronic damping controller series on supported vehicle applications. EDFC replaces the manual damping adjuster with a dedicated motor, allowing damping settings to be controlled from inside the vehicle.

EDFC compatibility varies by vehicle and should be confirmed for the exact application before ordering.

Durability and Component Quality

  • Vehicle-appropriate dust boots help protect the piston rod and prevent foreign material from entering the shock absorber. Some applications reuse the original dust boots.
  • Springs are cold-formed from SAE9254 material with a stated tensile strength of at least 200 kgf/mm².
  • Durable powder coating provides corrosion protection for the springs.
  • TEIN damper oil maintains stable viscosity from low to high temperatures.
  • The oil's anti-foaming properties help resist cavitation and heat-related performance loss during demanding sports driving.

Corrosion Protection

TEIN applies its proprietary ZTP coating to help protect components against paint damage from stone impacts and improve corrosion resistance. The suspension also features TEIN's green powder-coated finish.

The powder-coating process uses a patented two-coat, one-bake system applied over a blasted surface with an anti-corrosion coating underneath. This process is designed to improve coating durability and corrosion resistance.
